SBG 101 INTERVIEWS

S.O: When did you start your blog?

L.M.F: My first post was 2nd December 2017 https://littlemissfireblog.wordpress.com/2017/12/02/fire-financial-independence-retire-early/

S.O: Why did name your blog ‘little miss fire’?

L.M.F: Is it crazy to say I was reading my daughter A LOT of Mr Men books and it’s the first thing that came into my head?

S.O: Does fire stands for something?

L.M.F: FIRE in the finance community stands for Financial Independence Retire Early. I’m on the FIRE journey now and my blog is detailing that path in the hopes that if I make it, then others can follow along.

S.O: Did you study business studies or finance in school, college or university?

L.M.F: I studied Business Studies in high school. I’m terrible at Maths though – just ask my readers!

S.O: What are the advantages of using WordPress?

L.M.F: Its really simple to use as its so similar to Word. I didn’t need to learn any new skills at all in order to be able to use it. I can just sit down at my laptop and type.

S.O: What are the disadvantages of using WordPress?

L.M.F: The free ads that it plasters all over my blog!

S.O: What is the best way to save money and why?

L.M.F: It's not very glamorous but a budget is really the key to saving money. Once you can track where all your money is going its easy to see where you can make savings.

S.O: How do you make money blogging?

L.M.F: I don’t! There are some wonderful posts about making money from blogging but I am happy at the moment just writing for me.

S.O: Are there any techniques to bring more traffic to your blog?

L.M.F: I personally don’t do anything to bring traffic to my blog. I was lucky enough to have one of my posts https://littlemissfireblog.wordpress.com/2018/03/24/do-you-have-the-shopfloor-money-mentality/?wref=tp get featured on a very popular blog and that made my numbers spike.

S.O: Does anyone know about your blog?

L.M.F: Hopefully, my readers do! In the real world though no. Only my partner.

S.O: Is being a financial blogger hard?

L.M.F: I would say so yes. I am not very finance literate at the moment and that was one of the reasons I started my blog. There is so much out there in the world of Finance that even dipping a toe in can seem overwhelming. Luckily though the FI community is so friendly, its like having an extended family.

S.O: What are the advantages of being a financial blogger?

L.M.F: I would say how much you learn from others. The key to financial independence is perfecting a technique that works for you. It's not a cookie cutter one shape fits all kind of deal. It's nice to be able to bounce your ideas off like minded people.

S.O: What are the disadvantages of being a financial blogger?

L.M.F: That everyone knows when you have messed up royally! I tried my hand at Matched Betting and I was terrible at it. Of course, most FI bloggers have tried and succeeded at Matched Betting so it can be very humbling to be pulled up on your mistakes. It was a really positive experience and I learned so much from it.

S.O: How do you increase blog hits/page views?

L.M.F: I try not to get too focused on the numbers. My blog is so young that at this point, I’m all about making sure the people who do read it feel engaged and valued.

S.O: What is the most effective way to bring more traffic?

L.M.F: Write good posts! I think it helps to make the blog and posts personable. I started off writing guides about how to do things and soon realised I didn’t have enough experience to keep that format going.

S.O: What’s your opinion on businesses that scams people, especially bloggers who want to collaborate?

L.M.F: It gives bloggers a bad name in my opinion. Most get rich quick schemes are scams. Hard work and dedication all the way.

S.O: How do you plan your blog posts?

L.M.F: I aim to post about three times a week. It's not always that though as I get caught out when its half term and my daughter is off school. I don’t have a minute to sit and write so the posts usually go down to two and I tweet an update on the day I can’t post.

S.O: Are you going to write a blog guide based on the financial side of blogging?

L.M.F: If I make money from it then I probably will. I’ve read a lot of guides as I used to have a profitable fashion blog. They are very complicated! I would probably write a really easy to follow one.

S.O: What is your advice to someone who is struggling with blog views?

L.M.F: it's writing. I don’t think there is a formula that is a sure fire way to get traffic. If you love to blog then just keep doing it!

S.O: How do you write a financial blog post?

L.M.F: I don’t really have a set method. I usually base my posts on where I am in my life with my own finances. I was fascinated a few months ago about an “emergency fund”. That spawned a post and now a whole series on learning more about finances. I am also really into having the right mindset https://littlemissfireblog.wordpress.com/2018/02/10/the-financial-excuse-mentality-do-you-have-it/ about finances and this is something I often blog about.

Thank you for your answers little miss fire.
