Let’s start.

Copyright

What is copyright?

According to dictionary.com, it’s when the exclusive right to make copies, license, and otherwise exploit a literary, musical, or artistic work, whether printed, audio, video, etc.

A scenario

Meet Azmina

(This isn't actually Azmina, it's an example)

  1. Azmina wants to use some images for her animal website.

  2. So she went on google and searched ‘horses’ on the search bar

  3. When she pressed the search button and clicked on images, she picked one of the images at the middle top.

  4. She knows who owns the photograph of the horse and knows the image may be the subject of copyright.

  5. She clicked the right bottom on the mouse and clicked on saved as

Note: Remember, Azmina knows the photograph is owned by someone else.

6.She used a photo of a horse without giving the owner any credit on her blog post.

Question: What will happen to Azmina if she continues to use copyrighted images for her website?

Below I have linked an explanation of the current copyright laws.

  4. He clicked on tools then clicked on usage rights.

  5. On usage rights, he clicked on labelled as reused

  6. He clicked on this image and saved it

  7. He used this image for his gaming blog

Question: What will happen to Marcus if he continues to use free copyright images online?

Plagiarism

What is plagiarism?

According to Google, plagiarism is the practice of taking someone’s work or ideas and passing it off as your own.

A scenario

Meet Jasmine

(This isn't actually Jasmine, it's an example)

  • Jasmine had to write an essay for her sociology class

  • She didn’t know how to start an essay and called one of her friends

  • Her friend advised her to copy and paste word for word from a sociology website.

  • Jasmine thought it was a good idea to copy someone’s work

  • She copied and pasted everything from the sociology website and claimed it as her own work

  • On Monday, she gave her sociology teacher her essay.

Question: What will happen to Jasmine if she continues to plagiarise someone’s work for her future essays?
